To all new and returning Orchestra students – welcome to Armstrong! I trust that you have enjoyed a summer that has been both restful and and eventful. I am pleased to be beginning my second year here at AHS, and I am looking forward to working with all of you this year.
The dates for the year are now updated on this site. Many of the events are the same, with some changes. A notable addition is the Symphony participation in the Northwest Suburban Conference Music Festival held this year at Maple Grove High School.
This will be an “off” year for tours, with a major tour to take place for next year. Symphony will take a weekend trip to Chicago, Philharmonic will take a short regional trip TBD, and Freshman will take a day trip to Monticello. This is a great year, however, to add to student accounts in preparation for next year!
There will be many details in the Orchestra handbook, but I would like to highlight the picnic which starts our year on Thursday, Sept. 2. You will receive a paper invite in the mail during the week of Aug. 23. This is a chance to get acquainted and reacquainted with fellow orchestra members, and it is also a chance to meet the newest member of our 281 string faculty: Mr. Lucas Shogren will be directing the Cooper Orchestras. He takes over from Ms. Chelgren, who will be working at Edina High School. We wish Ms. Chelgren all the best, and we look forward to working with Mr. Shogren.
As always, feel free to contact me at any time. Email is the best way, but a phone call works as well. I am looking forward to the new school year!
